PATHWAYS FROM HOMELESSNESS 2020
2020: a decade for inclusion
Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th March 2020
Leonardo Royal Hotel London Tower Bridge, 45 Prescot Street, London, E1 8GP
Until then all the focus was on treating Cholera, not preventing and cutting it off at the source.
Tackling Homeless Health 2020 is now applying the same lesson.
The government has legislated in the Homeless Reduction Act to create a duty on the institutional sources of homelessness – care leavers, prisoner discharge, military demob, hospital discharge.
But homelessness has other, less visible, causes. Mental health, domestic abuse, drug abuse, addiction, accidents, disability, chronic ill-health, family breakup.
Where do intelligent data led services identify these risks and tackle them at source – preventing homelessness?
In Scotland the government identified that the risk signals for knife crime often presented in previous episodes at A&E. The same is true for the increased risks of homelessness. Risk indicators are there in health data, episodes, patterns, if you look, and not just in A&E.
Homeless Health 2020 will show public services where to look in local services, in new data and present research and case studies to tackle homelessness.
The lesson that prevention is better than cure is still being learned in homeless works.
2019’s international symposium at The Millennium Gloucester Hotel welcomed over 300 healthcare professionals, local government and not for profit sector specialists and experts by experience across the two days.
“So many sessions I wanted to see – great that other sessions are filmed to watch later”
“Effortlessly enjoyable and inspiring”
“An inspiring two days, feeling energised to be a positive system disrupter for inclusion health”
“Excellent conference with very varied speakers with great information and ideas on ways to improve the lives of homeless population”
“The event was thought provoking, inspiring and very informative”
“Good buzz factor for everyone, open to discussion and sharing experiences”
“Great to meet so many people who have had similar challenges and hear how they have persevered and overcome to achieve best outcomes for clients”
“It makes me feel normal to meet other people who feel equally passionate about ending homelessness.”
This annual symposium is developed by Pathway and the Faculty for Homeless and Inclusion Health and brings together a coalition of partners to focus on the many issues affecting homeless people’s wellbeing.
This, the 8th symposium, will bring together the latest international and national evidence and best practice in health, housing and public services for excluded people.
All presentations from this two day event are filmed or audio recorded, creating a box set of over 14 hours of professional content – a unique digital library which is given to all participants to inform their practice and to share with colleagues.
